The original Big Bud clone, which traveled from the USA to the Netherlands in the 1980s, was an energetic Afghan-Skunk hybrid that produced huge, heavy flower clusters. The transformation project of this single plant into a stable cannabis seed strain began with pollinating the Big Bud clone with cannabis strains very similar to the parent plants. This created two early hybrids: Big Bud x Skunk #1 and Big Bud x Northern Lights #1, which proved to be very popular. Ultimately, an example of the original Afghan parent clone - a massive hybrid plant variety was obtained, enabling the crossing and stabilization of the strain. The result was an energetic indica cannabis seed strain that would be able to match, and even surpass, the yields of the original clone and significantly increase its potency and flavor. Our Big Bud seed strain was released in the early 1990s, quickly gaining several awards and since then has been one of our most popular strains.
Recently, Sensi Seeds has created a high-yielding feminized version of this venerable strain, with improvements and enhancements continued in our latest version: Big Bud Automatic! This feminized, autoflowering cannabis seed strain retains the taste, potency, and density of Big Bud, while also having a more compact structure and shorter flowering time. Big Bud Automatic, usually grown indoors under light, can also grow outdoors in a sunny climate, and its ability to flower allows it to effectively flower in atypical or irregular light cycles. Plants begin to flower when they produce the seventh to ninth pair of true leaves, which usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks after germination.
Because the onset of flowering is predictable, growers can time the germination of Big Bud Automatic seeds so that flowering coincides with the warmest, brightest months in their local vegetative season. Light-sensitive cannabis strains do not flower in long, sunny days in June, but Big Bud Automatic can!
This heavy indica produces most of its yield on the main stem and upper branches. Big Bud Automatic should not be "topped" to increase bud sites, as the plant's vegetative period cannot be extended to allow for regrowth of pruned branches. Similarly, manipulating the light cycle will not increase or decrease the final height of this strain, due to its ability to autoflower. The maximum height of plants is largely predetermined, and the easiest way to minimize their final height is by pruning them late in the growth phase. After 7-9 weeks of flowering, plants typically reach a height of 90 to 130 cm and yield excellent harvests of mature, resinous indica buds. Like its predecessors, Big Bud Automatic branches may require support in the later flowering stage to prevent them from breaking under their own weight!
Once dried and cured, the clusters of Big Bud Automatic flowers retain much of their size and weight. The resin coverage is dense on the entire surface of the buds and is extremely abundant even in their tightly clustered structure. Individual calyxes can swell to extraordinary sizes, although the vast majority of calyxes are packed together in nodes, where they almost fight for space, giving the buds of this strain an incredible density.
Once dried, the huge, sparkling clusters of Big Bud Automatic flowers have a rich bouquet and flavor derived from Afghan and Skunk ancestors; sweet, sharp, fruity, and musky aromas give way to a strong undertone of crispy, resinous hashish. Sticky trichomes settled in the buds give a very strong physical effect, which is brightened and enhanced by the uplifting Sativa elements of Skunk #1. Big Bud Automatic has a good balance of THC and CBD, making it suitable for a wide range of medical applications. Naturally, the long-lasting, sensual high of this strain makes it an excellent choice for recreational pleasure.
